Visiting Cheomseongdae early in the morning, cutting through the dawn air to avoid the crowds, was truly encountering a thousand years of wisdom in serenity.

I arrived at Cheomseongdae early in the morning, just as the sun began to rise. Thanks to its close proximity to my Hwanglidan-gil accommodation, it was easily accessible for a light morning stroll. As there were no tourists yet, Cheomseongdae, standing tall in the wide grassy field, displayed its quiet and majestic presence.
As the warm sunlight began to illuminate each stone of Cheomseongdae, its ancient traces felt even more moving. The surrounding green lawn and the distant ancient tombs made me feel as if I had stepped into Silla history.
🔭 A Thousand Years of Wisdom Hidden in Cheomseongdae: The Silla People Who Loved Stars
Cheomseongdae is known as the oldest astronomical observatory in East Asia, built during the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla. As its name suggests ('gazing at stars'), it is a culmination of science used by the Silla people to observe the movements of the sky and predict agricultural seasons.
The architectural beauty of Cheomseongdae shines even brighter with its scientific significance:

Especially in autumn, pink muhly grasses, and in spring, cherry blossoms are said to adorn the area around Cheomseongdae. I hope to visit again in a different season to experience its other charms.
